It was so weird because I was having a lot of headaches when I was about 30. The neurologist said it might be trigeminal neuralgia. That was how I found out I was allergic to Tegretol.
Fast forward to when I started having trouble again. The dentist was sure it was TMJ. She sent me to this doctor on the other side of town who was an “expert” on TMJ. He told me it wasn’t TMJ, that it sounded more like neuralgia. And he could help me if I just bought mountains of the special supplements he had in his storeroom. Never saw him or the dentist again.
Finally, it got so bad a few years ago that I asked my PCP for help. He wouldn’t treat it without a diagnosis from a neurologist. That was when I decided that the first neurologist was right about the diagnosis. When I ended up in the ER because of the pain, I got the same question about who had diagnosed it. I told them it was a neurologist years before. It’s been a lot easier since then
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Sounds like you had some difficulty with your diagnosis as well. I was just in the er last week (per the entry about cheese omelets) 🧀 it wasn’t directly for facial pain but mine has just been unbearable lately. I really just don’t know what’s going on… 😕 what did they do for you when you went to the er that time?
Hi there 😊 wow my vision is getting bad.. I can barely read this! I left you a comment on your story and how I really appreciate how helpful you have been since you have experience with facial pain. So that’s what happened 🤔 in the emergency room. Thatz what usually happens. That’s the key a doctor who will work with you. I think that’s gonna be a miracle for me to find. I can understand the frustration.. im actually leaning towards Tmj now thinking that’s why none of the medications work o
But who knows. Wow I wish I cpuld get some new glasses im becoming blind as a bat!
Cool 😎
